Giulio Speranza is a photographer born in Rome in 1980, with a PhD in Geological Sciences. He has been working as a professional photographer since 2014, specialising in interior, architectural and mountain landscape photography. For his landscape work, he uses almost exclusively large format and black-and-white film.
His cameras range from 4×5 to 8×10 inches, with sliding-frame bodies, both field and monorail types. He develops the negatives himself. In the Apennines, he carries his equipment on his back in a rucksack weighing between twenty-two and twenty-three kilos. This work has resulted in two books: *Gran Sasso d’Italia*, published in 2020, and *Majella Madre*, published in 2023. A third book, dedicated to the Velino-Sirente range, is in the pipeline, funded through a crowdfunding campaign.
He has tested prototypes of StenopeiKa large-format field cameras. His work has appeared on the Linhof and Sinar websites, and his Gran Sasso project was supported by Linhof and JOBO. In 2015, he won the Moscow International Foto Award in the nature category.
He runs courses on large-format photography and the techniques of sliding-frame cameras, both one-to-one and in groups. He organises photographic treks in central Italy and workshops abroad. He has exhibited his work in Italy and abroad, and chairs the Grigio 18% photography association.
